Intense FPS (frames per second) lag.

Postby MrBiglesworth » Mon Jul 26, 2010 3:06 am

I've been playing for a long time here, and never had any issues with graphic lag until of yesterday/today. Now if theres too many people in lobby, I begin to lag. I have to go to a less populated lobby to not lag. Also in certain parts in certain stages, I begin to lag immensely. Could anyone help me out? My graphics card is "ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series". My resolution for PSO is 640 x 480, 16bit colors. 0 frame skip ( I have tried auto frame skip but I still lag), everything is set to as low as possible, and I have emulation fog on. ( I've tried the other 2 fogs and they only lag me worse) If anyone could help me out, I would apprecaite it.

Actually bro i know your problem(it use to happen to me). Check the taskbar when you click start after opening the exe. If you have the same problem i had then both the online exe and the shpsobb(long name you know what i mean) are both open at the same time. Even if you close one it will still lag. I'm running windows 7 and use to get this after not shutting down for a couple games. A simple solution is to turn off UAC and have task manager open and manually shutdown one of the processes. You will still lag in lobby but not in game tho :(

Nope, I only see only shpsobb. Thanks for trying though.

Try, also, turning your frame rate up to 1 or greater in the options menu. Turn graphics down as well to see if it makes any difference.

Okay I tried turning frame rate up to 1 and 2 and it seems to make it worse. (assuming by frame rate you mean frame skipping) And all the graphics are as low as possible, and still no go.

Old laptop used to have that old graphic's card, turned off Advanced Effects, Shadows, and put Emulation to fog since those are the 3 common factors that makes some people get slowdown on pso.

I have advanced effects unchecked, shadows minimum (I don't know how to turn off shadows completely if thats what you mean) and I'm using emulation fog. However with all of this, I still lag. :S

Edit: I only lag when the lobby is populated, when my camera perspective sees all of Pioneer 2, and random parts of certain areas (like one of the beginning rooms of 2c4 seabed in challenge mode)

Also if it helps, I'm using Windows Vista. I've tried reinstalling but that didn't work either. If anyone could help me out that'd be great thanks.

Dont know if this will help but, when my game begins to lags I run a program called GameBooster. What it really does is free up a bunch of RAM and CPU by shutting down useless window processes (vista has a lot of those) and other processes that you choose.

Hmm, I might give that a shot. Although I've checked task manager and it shows me using a maximum of 1.5 gigs of ram, and my laptop can use up to 3.5 gigs. But at this point, anything is worth a try. Link me? :)

After using Gamebooster, I still have the same lag. Anyone else have any other ideas? :(

Are you using Windows 7 or Windows Vista? If so...

For Windows 7, Right click SHPsoBB.exe and choose properties. From here, choose comparability and check "Disable Desktop composition." This seems to help with lag this game suffers from if your video card isn't too powerful.

For Windows Vista, turn off Windows Aero: http://maximumpcguides.com/windows-vist ... on-or-off/

Sudden onset of slowdown usually means something was changed. Have you updated drivers recently? (windows update does it a lot and they usually SUCK) If not (I know it's extremely common to say but) Try to update your drivers, specifically the Display drivers.

The Radeon 200m chipset should have plenty of power to run that at medium/high settings at 640x480 in 32 bit with advanced effects.

I got Windows Vista. So I checked the link out and followed instructions. And turns out I don't even have the aero option.

Now I'm not sure exactly if windows did auto update my drivers. But in any case, how do I go about trying to find the drivers?
